An adjustable pneumatic cylinder is a type of cylinder designed to offer flexibility in its stroke length or operational settings.
Unlike standard cylinders with fixed parameters, adjustable pneumatic cylinders allow users to modify certain characteristics,
such as the stroke length, cushioning, or pressure limits, making them ideal for applications where adaptability is essential.
The stroke length of a cylinder can be modified by adjusting internal or external pneumatic accessories.
The most common method is to use a cylinder with a magnetic ring, and install a magnetic switch externally.
When the piston reaches the specified position, the magnetic switch detects the magnetic ring on the piston, closes,
and sends an electrical signal to control the direction of airflow into and out of the cylinder, as well as the pressure changes on both sides of the piston.
In this way, by simply installing the external magnetic switch at different positions on the cylinder barrel, the stroke length of the cylinder can be changed.
For information on how to install a magnetic switch on a cylinder, refer to How To Select And Install A Magnetic Switch.
An adjustable cylinder typically has a cushioning valve on the end cap, allowing for pneumatic cushioning.
When the piston reaches the end of its stroke, it contacts the cushioning gasket, forming a sealed cavity between the end cap and the piston.
The air inside this cavity can only be discharged through the cushioning valve.
When the opening of the cushioning valve is small, the pressure inside the cavity rises rapidly, creating a reaction force against the piston, causing it to decelerate until it stops.
When the opening of the cushioning valve is larger, the air inside the cavity is expelled more quickly, and the cushioning force is reduced.
Therefore, by tightening or loosening the cushioning screw on the cushioning valve, the cushioning force of the cylinder can be easily adjusted.
Some adjustable cylinders allow the user to alter the pressure levels, enabling controlled force output depending on the application's requirements.
These cylinders often come with a compact design and modular components, which make it easy to integrate into existing systems and adapt to changing operational demands.
Adjustable stroke lengths allow precise positioning of materials, ensuring smooth handling in dynamic environments like conveyor systems.
The ability to fine-tune stroke lengths and cushioning makes these cylinders perfect for tasks that require precision, such as component assembly or inspection.
Adjustable settings ensure compatibility with various package sizes and weights, providing flexibility in production lines.
Adjustable pneumatic cylinders are widely used in testing rigs where variable stroke lengths and controlled force are needed to simulate different operational conditions.
◆ Versatility: Easily adaptable to a wide range of applications.
◆ Cost-Efficiency: Reduces the need to purchase multiple cylinders for different tasks.
◆ Improved System Longevity: Adjustable cushioning minimizes wear and tear.
◆ Increased Productivity: Quick adjustment saves time during system setup or process changes.
