Customized Long Stroke Air Cylinder for Truck

You may have already noticed that many important parameters of cylinders have standard values, such as bore size, installation dimensions, etc. But why doesn't the stroke of a cylinder have a standard value?

This is because different machinery and operating conditions have different requirements for the stroke of the cylinder. The application range of cylinders is vast, and the scenarios are numerous, making it difficult to establish a unified standard value for the stroke of a cylinder.

Not long ago, a customer ordered a batch of custom long-stroke SC cylinders from us, which would be installed on a heavy-duty truck.

This type of truck is different from regular trucks, as it has a multifunctional slider at the rear, allowing its rear supports to extend and retract freely to accommodate different lengths and weights of cargo. When the cargo is large, the support can be extended to bear the load.

To achieve this function, the customer came to us and requested a custom long-stroke, high-load cylinder.

Custom Cylinder Structure

According to the customer's requirements, the cylinder is mounted horizontally under the rear frame of the truck, with the piston rod connected to the support. The extension and retraction of the cylinder drives the movement of the support.

Unlike other common applications, the truck's support requires a high amount of piston rod extension, so the cylinder needs to have a long stroke. The maximum stroke of this cylinder is 2800mm, providing a very flexible adjustment range.

Through calculations, the cylinder's bore size was set to 100mm, which can meet the cylinder's output force requirements and still leave some margin to ensure it operates normally even when the intake pressure is insufficient, reducing the failure rate.

Since the truck often operates in windy, rainy, and humid conditions during transport and unloading, this custom cylinder features a stainless steel piston rod, providing excellent corrosion resistance. Whether in a humid port or a dusty construction site, the cylinder can maintain high performance, extend its service life, and reduce maintenance frequency and costs.

As a cylinder specifically designed for heavy equipment, the AIRTAC SC cylinder excels in harsh environments. Whether in high or low temperatures, or in dusty or humid conditions, the cylinder can work stably, ensuring that the truck's support extension and retraction actions are not affected and completing tasks efficiently.

Since trucks are usually parked outdoors, in winter, the seals inside the cylinder may become brittle due to the cold, making them ineffective and shortening the cylinder's lifespan. In summer, due to the heat and the accumulated heat from the cylinder during operation, the seals may melt or degrade. Therefore, the seals need to have certain heat and cold resistance.

The standard working temperature range for NBR seals is from -30°C to 70°C, which meets the usage requirements. In addition, NBR seals also have excellent oil resistance and good wear resistance, making them ideal for use as sealing elements in this custom cylinder.

The control system uses PLC control, which is easy to operate and allows the extension length of the support to be preset according to different usage scenarios.

Furthermore, the internal components of the cylinder, such as the piston and cylinder body, are precisely manufactured to ensure the stability and efficiency of the cylinder. To ensure that the customer does not have any concerns during use, the cylinder system has also undergone strict quality inspections and testing to ensure smooth operation and the ability to work continuously in high-load, high-frequency usage scenarios.

Production and Delivery

During the production phase, we strictly followed the customer's requirements and design specifications. For the custom long-stroke cylinder, especially the processing of the cylinder body and piston rod, advanced CNC processing technology was used to ensure the accuracy and durability of each component.

At the same time, the customer requested delivery within a month, so we ensured the project schedule was met during production.

Once the cylinder was completed, it entered the testing phase. During testing, we simulated various working environments and conducted multiple tests on the cylinder's extension, load-bearing, and sealing performance to ensure the product met all performance requirements.

After comprehensive testing and confirmation that there were no issues, the sample of cylinders were promptly delivered to the customer.

Customer Feedback

After the cylinders were delivered and put into use, the customer provided very positive feedback.

First, the adjustable support on the container truck was significantly improved, enabling more precise and flexible height adjustments to accommodate containers of various sizes and weights, greatly improving transport efficiency.

Second, the long-stroke design of the cylinder successfully addressed the customer's need for a large adjustment range. The 2800mm stroke fully meets the compatibility requirements for various container types, and especially in bulk cargo transportation, the stability and reliability of the system were highly praised by the customer.

The customer particularly praised the cylinder's durability and corrosion resistance. During use, there have been no failures so far, avoiding additional maintenance costs caused by frequent seal replacements. The stainless steel piston rod also ensures that the truck's extendable supports function smoothly in any environment.
